I R GRADUAMATED!
Well, it's official ... I graduated Animation Mentor!I almost don't know what to do with all the free time now. No homework or preparing submission packets and demo reels to send out. Whew! It was a struggle at times, but it was well worth it all. I went into the program with never having touched Maya and left with a very decent demo reel (cut scenes from the best little bits of my bigger projects).
It's sort of scary having a new skill set and looking at the possibility of changing careers so late in life (I turned 37 at the end of November). I'm basically looking at starting in a field where guys my age who started in college are directors or lead animators by now. I'll be an old dog in with the young pups ... but an old dog with the same action figures on his desk and can speak about cartoons and geek culture with the best of 'em. =)
2007 is looking to be a big year. A big scary year. Who knows where I will end up? Where will I be by the end of the year? I need to get into gear and get a job though, whether it be with my tried and tested webmastering skills or my new skill set.
Work work work. As much fun as I’ve had being a stay at home dad the past few months, I am definitely a creature of occupational adventures. I love to get up, go to a good job and just get things done. I've sent out a lot of resumes, and demo reels and cover letters. Let’s see who calls first, eh?
As for catching up, the end of the year was a very busy one. I had a birthday at the end of November (amongst my gift haul was the full DVD set of Briscoe County Jr. ... yay!) and we had our Christmas gathering and New Year’s Eve fun.
Well, actually I was sick and Cat was tired, so we made it to about 9:00 or so New Year's Eve before calling it a night. But we had fun all day, so I think that counts.
This last year I was part of a corporate buyout, changed jobs, was able to work at home (and eventually just say home to look after Moriah), got a new job skill, and generally set myself up for a creative future.
So here's to another year, full of promise and hope. May you all be as blessed as I was this past year, in the coming year.

Congratulations on finishing school!
I don't suppose any of those projects featured the old AT cast, did they?
Weeeeeeeeeee :D Congratulation... Will you free time include new cartoons for SWO or AT ? pu-lease ? ;-)
Hey Barry. Congrats on the graduation! I actually just came over here in search of the famous "Post-natal Drip" strip from AT. My wife and I have also just had a baby and, hoo doggy, you weren't kidding. :)
Anyway, I'm glad to see things are going well for you. Take care.
Barry, way to go. A very brave move on your part. Best of luck to you. I'll be watching for the digitally animated AT show on Comedy Central. Also, many kudos on being able to do the stay-at-home dad thing. That takes an even bigger pair :)
Best to you.
Congratulations. If I say anything more I'd just end up trotting out old cliches.
-brit with a stick-
congratulations :-)
Congrabulations yoo gradjiated!gonna share some more thoughts now that you have more time?
Congrats! Thank you for AT.
So... can we see you're demo reel? :-)
Heh, well, I might put it up sometime, but for now it's a few meg and I'm not sure if I'd go over my bandwidth allotment. Right now it's just for viewing by potential employers.
I'll see about hosting it somewhere though.
Hey bud, big fan from the comics days. Would love to see the show reel too.
U R HITLAR

Woohoo! Congrats big man! Being the "old dog" amongst the young pups can also serve to your advantage, so don't think that that'll work against you just yet. You've got experience that they don't have and it'll show in your work. Now let's hope you get offered a pile of money for a job!
Congratulations Barry!
Yeah, sure. Whatever.
Angst again?
Actually, congrats, man. That's cool. Best of luck.
(Wanders off to read the Angst archives again.)
Well, cut it and put it in YouTube already!
I've been dying for you to show off your talent even since you started these classes!! :)
What to do with your free time? How about reviving Angst Technology. It's a shame it got shelved.
Hi Barry,
Just came across your post. You know, I am 40... or 41 i dont remember (its 3:40am) Yikes and I was also wondering about the age thing. Thought maybe im too old, on the other hand I think there are varios other skill sets that I believe can be transferred to the new 'job'.
I have not attended any animation school, just learning what I can during my off time, while working at my current job. Thought about the school you attended but the $$ is not avail. for that, so I do the next best thing.. read what I can and practice when I can.
I would be interested to know if you have managed to get any interviews, and what the reaction may have been after them noticing you are not a younger person.. i guess the job history may give the age away? and/or reactions from others.
Keep it up, all in all I think its about believing on accomplishing a dream.
Let me know when you get a chance.
Congrats.
Congratulations! I happened to be going through some old bookmarks and found "Ink Tank" again. I read the strip avidly. It kept me sane at work.
I thought to myself "Gee, what's Barry been up to lately?"
Well, same thing as me, apparently! I joined AM last class. If I had only known...
Congrats again, and I can't wait to see you're new work! And if you have the time, drop by and give me a PR. ;p
