In Which I Rank The Star Trek Series'
Well, I think it is all too obvious:
That's right, I said it! Enterprise > ST:TNG!
- Deep Space Nine - great series, the most character development, they finally started using over reaching story arcs
- Enterprise - had such potential, I found season three to be some of the best sci-fi TV I've ever seen
- The Next Generation - much love, but only here because of weak episodes and overall unevenness
- The Original Series - again, much love but even growing up with it, it seems dated and had some real clunkers
- Voyager - I think there were only one or two episodes of this I enjoyed, the rest I really could have done without
That's right, I said it! Enterprise > ST:TNG!

Whoa whoa, let's not go crazy here. I must repectfully disagree with your assertions, and offer my own opinion:
1. TNG
2. DS9
3. Voyager & TOS (tie)
I won't list Enterprise since I actually haven't ever seen an episode of it yet.
Enterprise better than TNG? I hate to do this Barry but you leave me no choice.

"-10 influence with Deraldin"
Now for the inevitable question: Where would Babylon 5 fit in that list?
BLASPHEMERRRRR!!!!!
although I agree with the Deep Space 9.. :D
My order:
1. TNG - Needed a few seasons to grow up, but I'll never forget the sense of awe I had when watching this. Picard was such a cool and capable leader and I still think the Enterprise D has one of the most beautiful and elegant designs in sci-fi history.
2. ENT - Engrossing storyline and great characters. Loved the "what the heck are we doing" approach. If it had run for a full 7 seasons, I'd probably have put it at the top spot.
3. VOY - I actually loved this very much. Some of the stories were below par, but the characters made it up for me. Also, this was the first of the series that started up being fairly mature
4. TOS - I agree completely with your assessment
5. DS9 - the longer story arcs never really did it for me and then there was Ezri Dax.
No arguing about taste :)
Well I have to say that I am surprised that anyone else would put Enterprise higher on the list that TNG.
The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way about Enterprise was the Time War. The rest wasn't enjoyable.
DS9 brought what I had always wanted to see in the Star Trek universe: WAR! The rest of it was pretty good too.
However, Voyager was the show
I really enjoyed. Sure there were some "meh" episodes, but I really did love that show. The ending was a bit of a let down.
I agree with your comments on both TNG and TOS.
But here's the thing that really cheeses me about every series except TOS. Every time travel episode they ever wrote was CRAP! Poo! Ka-kaa! Which made it all the more pitiful when they insisted in ending TNG and Voyager with the concept.
B5 would be above them all. Purely for the fact I have watched each ST series once when it aired (and quite a few reruns) and watched my TNG and Enterprise boxed sets once.
But I am on my third, fourth? watching of the B5 series and am eagerly awaiting Hulu to post more seasons before I have to go to the storage unit and dig out my boxed set.
TNG and Enterprise would actually be more of a tie, but I felt Enterprise needed a bit of extra love for all the hate it got. ;)
The original series is the only one I've ever enjoyed. TNG had a handful of episodes which were good, but mostly it was a mess. It's the series that drove me away from Star Trek.
I never watched much DS9 or Voyager - the few episodes I did see were too painfully bad to contemplate watching any others. I watched the series finale of each, and in each case I thought, "Gee, I'm glad I didn't sit through 7 years of this series just for that!"
I watched the whole first season of Enterprise, and then bailed early in the second season when it became clear the writers didn't have a plan and were still just basically lousy writers. I did come back for the "Mirror Mirror" prequel, which I thoroughly enjoyed. (The rest of the series' end was pretty weak, though.)
I think the original Star Trek still holds up well as an action-adventure series, and many of its episodes are still downright excellent even today, in much the same way a lot of the original Twilight Zone is still excellent television. But I think it's been passed in overall quality by Babylon 5, and arguably by the new Battlestar Galactica as well.
I never have any urge at all to re-watch any of the second-generation Trek series. I prefer my TV series to have good writing with actual characterization and drama, and TNG set the standard for the later series by having very little of any of those.
Thank you for putting DS9 first. It is also my favorite of the Star Trek Series. I want to like Enterprise more but the time war storyline lost me.
The only good Enterprise episodes were "In a Mirror Darkly" part one and two. :p
I liked Enterprise more than TNG as well, although I'd put DS9 just behind Voyager, it wouldn't be by much. TNG has a special place in that it reignited the spark, but it took a little while to not suck.
Also, I rather like standalone episodes, more than the 3 or 4 part ones.
I'm working through Bab5 at the moment. Never seen all of it, or in proper order, thanks to Australian TV progammers...
