The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Keyboards
Well, I have good news an I have bad news.
The good news is that I will be back to cartooning in full force in the very near future.
The bad news is because getting laid off in this tough economy has cleared my immediate schedule.
Yes, I have indeed lost one of the best jobs I ever had. I’m taking it a bit harder than the usual “reduction in force” layoffs I’ve been a part of in the past (particularly around the “dot bomb” implosion) since I was really suited for this jobĀ and had recently gotten an excellent performance review. But alas, the economic downturn is causing all sort of companies to make painful decisions.
SO…while the job hunt is on (those still exist, don’t they?) I have more than ample time to get my cartooning groove on. I can finally start checking off the laundry list of comic gags I’ve been collecting on this legal pad next to my keyboard. Heck, I might even be able to get some blogging done about topics that have been on my mind lately.
Don’t worry about the strip though. Even though it’s semi-autobiographical I am settled into Angst Technology and my current circumstances won’t be directly reflected in the “Inkyverse”.
After all, when you’re down you need to surround yourself with friends. Even if they are of the poo flinging, karaoke butchering, mad technical scientist, long haired perv variety. Actually … ESPECIALLY if they are.

Don’t forget us weirdos.

You could always work as a dictionary compiler… they are always looking for fresh meat.

sucks man. I’ve seen my own company dwindle in these economic times and it makes me a little bit nervous. We let the baggage go a long time ago so we only have the good staff to layoff and how do you decide who? I’m just glad its not my job to decide.

Sorry to hear about your layoff, especially since you were so happy about this position. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to your creative output, as brilliant as ever, and I hope that you’ll find an even greater job real soon!

Sorry about the bad news. It’s always an alarm to the industry when GOOD people are getting the pink slip, though you hope companies are wise enough to pick everyone back up when budgets loosen back up again. Hope you can draw some humor from the situation, though for the time being I’m sure some down time for the kids and cartooning doesn’t hurt. Good luck!

Aieee, Barry – sorry to hear it! Honestly, I’m not sure what you were doing, so I can’t start flinging tons of recommendations your way, but how about some GEEK KARMA?! *fwash!*

Ah, man, that blows. i still remember when my Husband lost His job in the pre-dot.com crash (the company He worked for was one of the first to go, since it made things others used to test their computer components.) Anyway, i sincerely hope you get something you like quickly and aren’t forced to rely on your wife’s income for three years, or anything else we had to do afterwards. *hugs*

LOL! Thanks for the offer Ralph. I’m pretty sure I’m on a “stalker” list at Cryptic at this point though.
I do pass by the offices though when I’m taking my family to Vaenco park for a day of fun.

I’m glad to see that you’re up-beat though. It’ll be ok… worse case scenario, you can panhandle via the internets

I hope it’s a short job hunt with a happy ending! Even though I like seeing the comics I’d rather have occasional comics from a happy cartoonists than regular comics from a depressed cartoonist.
