Sage Weil is the creator of the Ceph project. Sage originally designed Ceph as part of his PhD research in Storage Systems at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Since graduating, he has continued to refine the system with the goal of providing a stable next generation distributed storage system for Linux. Sage is a co-founder of DreamHost and as a teenager he created and sold WebRing.
An entrepreneur at heart, Bryan is focused on building and managing disruptive businesses and passionate teams. In recent years he has found himself focused on applying his skills in the quickly evolving cloud computing industry. To date, with his teams, he has built a SaaS company, Marketingisland, built and sold a PaaS company called Reasonably Smart, and for the past several years landed squarely in the IaaS world working as a Senior Executive with both Joyent, Inc. and DreamHost. Now Bryan is focused on building the business that will help enable those who are adopting the Ceph Distributed Storage System. Quite a ride!
Vice President of Strategic Development
Ben is responsible for partnerships, strategic alliances, and corporate development. Previously, Ben was the Chief Strategy Officer of Midokura, a cloud network virtualization vendor where he ran US sales, marketing, partnerships, and US fund raising. Prior to that, Ben was the GM of Emerging Technologies at DreamHost, where he ran the cloud business unit, which initially incubated Ceph and was the first Ceph production customer. Before DreamHost, Ben had started several successful technology companies: a cloud-focused managed services company, a CIO consultancy, an ERP implementation firm, and a systems / network integration firm. He is passionate about the startup ecosystem and mentoring up-and-coming entrepreneurs. He is also passionate about burgers.
Vice President, Services
Wolfgang leads Inktank’s worldwide services team, which includes support, consulting, and education. Wolfgang brings over twenty years of IT experience, and has lead sizable PS organizations. Before joining Inktank, Wolfgang was Director for Application Architecture at the Credit Suisse Investment Bank. Prior to that, Wolfgang was Director for Professional Services in Progress Software, and Director Americas for Professional Services for IONA Technologies. It was at IONA where Wolfgang discovered his passion for Open Source software, because his role included responsibility for the delivery of FUSEsource training and consulting. Throughout his career, Wolfgang has focused on building relationships with customers through delivering top quality services. Wolfgang has authored several books, has a Doctor’s degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Dresden (Germany), and an MS in Computer Science from the FAU in Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany).
Vice President, Community
Ross Turk is responsible for building a strategic relationship with users, contributors, and the open source community. Ross brings more than 15 years of experience creating software, managing complex IT systems, and helping companies understand and serve developers. Before joining Inktank, Ross managed developer communities for Talend, Alcatel-Lucent and SourceForge.net, the world’s largest open source community. In the more distant past, Ross ran the engineering team for SourceForge and provided architectural leadership.
Vice President, Product Management
With a background in large systems infrastructure and open-source software, Neil is responsible for Inktank’s product strategy. Neil was co-founder and VP Product at venture-backed start-up Nodeable, and before that was GM/VP at Canonical, the commercial sponsors of the Ubuntu operating system, where he ran the unit which built tools and delivered services to Ubuntu’s enterprise customers, as well as being responsible for server and cloud product strategy. As CTO of Claranet, one of the largest independent internet service and hosting providers in Europe, Neil helped build the company from 15- employee organization to a 650-strong company operating in nine countries. Neil is a current affairs junkie and fan of heavy music.
Vice President, Business Development
Nigel is a dedicated and driven sales executive with a customer centric approach. He has a proven track record of growing sales organizations in open source businesses, selling to federal and commercial enterprises domestically and internationally. With experience building talented and motivated sales teams and creating the processes to support them, Nigel has been able to achieve consistent year on year growth in his previous positions with FuseSource and IONA Technologies. Given Inktank’s current customer successes and excellent market traction, backed by the rock solid and compelling Ceph storage solution, Nigel looks forward to contributing his skills in improving and expanding the influence of Inktank in the storage domain.
Vice President, People Strategy and Administration
Art Elizarov is the Vice President, People Strategy and Administration overseeing the company’s efforts to create a diverse and inclusive environment that fosters technological innovation. Boasting an accomplished career as a Human Resources Executive, Art has a professional emphasis on organizational leadership, and specializes in unique HR initiatives that use diversity, inclusion, and consensus-building to positively impact the bottom line. Art strongly believes that effective HR practices make a dramatic difference in organizational performance.
Prior to joining the Company, Art spent 2 years as the Guru of Employee and Labor Relations for Los Angeles County and 6 years as the Vice President of Human Resources at Flynt Management Group. Art holds graduate degrees in Labor Relations (M.S.), Business Administration, (M.B.A-Finance), Organizational Leadership (M.A.-Servant Leadership), and an Ivy League Law degree (J.D.). Art is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the Grenoble School of Management in Organizational Leadership.
As Chairman of Inktank and CEO of DreamHost, the principal sponsor of Ceph, Simon guided the formation and initial funding of Inktank, and provides ongoing strategic advice to the management team on all aspects of the venture.
