I R GRADUAMATED!
Well, it's official ... I graduated Animation Mentor!I almost don't know what to do with all the free time now. No homework or preparing submission packets and demo reels to send out. Whew! It was a struggle at times, but it was well worth it all. I went into the program with never having touched Maya and left with a very decent demo reel (cut scenes from the best little bits of my bigger projects).
It's sort of scary having a new skill set and looking at the possibility of changing careers so late in life (I turned 37 at the end of November). I'm basically looking at starting in a field where guys my age who started in college are directors or lead animators by now. I'll be an old dog in with the young pups ... but an old dog with the same action figures on his desk and can speak about cartoons and geek culture with the best of 'em. =)
2007 is looking to be a big year. A big scary year. Who knows where I will end up? Where will I be by the end of the year? I need to get into gear and get a job though, whether it be with my tried and tested webmastering skills or my new skill set.
Work work work. As much fun as I’ve had being a stay at home dad the past few months, I am definitely a creature of occupational adventures. I love to get up, go to a good job and just get things done. I've sent out a lot of resumes, and demo reels and cover letters. Let’s see who calls first, eh?
As for catching up, the end of the year was a very busy one. I had a birthday at the end of November (amongst my gift haul was the full DVD set of Briscoe County Jr. ... yay!) and we had our Christmas gathering and New Year’s Eve fun.
Well, actually I was sick and Cat was tired, so we made it to about 9:00 or so New Year's Eve before calling it a night. But we had fun all day, so I think that counts.
This last year I was part of a corporate buyout, changed jobs, was able to work at home (and eventually just say home to look after Moriah), got a new job skill, and generally set myself up for a creative future.
So here's to another year, full of promise and hope. May you all be as blessed as I was this past year, in the coming year.
