I Have A New Hero...
and his name is ATOMIC ROBO! I picked up Atomic Robo as my free comic selection on Free Comic Book Day. To say I was not disappointed is an understatement. I LOVE this character! He is Spiderman's sass housed in a miniature Iron Giant with Hellboy's job. In short, he is the (pseudo) living embodiment of AWESOME! In addition, the creators have been nominated for an Eisner and I am definitely throwing my support behind them as I will be tracking down every scrap of Atomic Robo goodness I can get my hands on. In other news, I wrapped up an impromptu live Llama Report recording last night which should get posted over the weekend. We opted to do it early, as Mother's Day weekend will be a busy one for us and it afforded us the opportunity to have an open format "call in" type show. Which no one called in for. So this weekend, prepare to listen to me and Cay talk to each other for about forty five minutes about weird and interesting news stories, completely unedited. And, it seems I'm not only busy here at my site, but have been busy making the rounds on the Intrawebs their week, as evidenced by appearances by Captain Inkmerica over at Mad Scott Comic and a personal appearance by me at Newbie Shooting Range. Boy, I'm busier than I thought. Finally, I want to wish my mother and my lovely wife a Happy Mother's Day, and hopefully all of you will do something nice for your mothers this weekend. See you Monday!
One Month Down ... Infinity To Go!
I apologize for the delay in posting, but I had forgotten how time consuming webcartooning was. With the strip itself, creating the forums, making banners, creating content, etc. and with the addition of a wee one this time around, I am really feeling the time crunch. Which is ok, as I'm glad I set myself up a more spread out schedule this time around. But after doing the Civil War storyline these past two weeks, it really makes me miss the bang, bang, bang of a daily schedule. but that's the goal. Get back to a daily schedule someday, or at the very minimum a Monday though Friday schedule. But for now, even though I tend to work on the strip late, I still have time to spend with family, work on side projects and do things like go see Iron Man. Yeah! I got to see it this weekend and I hope to go see it again soon. I was really blown away and silently pumped my fist in the air on more than one occasion (in particular, the after credits scene). I think the filmmakers did an exceptional job getting the Iron Man origin right and modernizing it. All the right story elements were there, the actors were cast to great effect and they left us with a few hints of things to come. In particular, I liked how they handled Jarvis the "butler" and Tony Stark's final comment at the press conference. Good stuff that will hopefully lead to more films. It seems that Marvel really did it right their first time as bat (this was a fully funded Marvel movie, and not just them licensing off the character to someone else) and hopefully they will continue on this path in future films. In other Iron Man related news, a big shout out to Nat from Hobbytown U.S.A. for securing for me a HeroClix Iron Man when my local comic book shop didn't get theirs for Free Comic Book Day. Yay Nat! And speaking of comic book related things, I am really enjoying where Marvel's "Secret Invasion" summer event is going. Rarely have I picked up a comic title only to have my jaw drop at each issue. For those not in the know, Brian Bendis is a prolific comic book writer (a "ten year, overnight success" he says) who has been planting the seeds of a Skrull (alien shapeshifters) invasion over the past few years. From plot twists that make a Gregorian knot look like a bendy straw to reveals about who really is a Skrull, this event has really got my attention. The InkTank Forums are abuzz with activity, with about sixty members and over eight hundred posts in the first week alone the Inky spirit is truly alive and kicking in our little community. Heck, we even pitched in to get a fellow member her own Firefly boxed set when she told us she hadn't seen it. *gasp* Imagine the horror! You may have noticed the appearance of ad banners on the site. Well, it's time to start monetizing the site a little bit. But, as with all my past advertising, I tend to promote products and companies I have a particular fondness for. Sideshow Collectables has an AWESOME selection of goodies that make me feel like a kid pressing his nose up against the toy store window. In addition, I consider them friends of the site since I have built a personal relation ship with the gang over there and they even sponsored the prizes for the Hellboy contest we had a few years back. I look forward to showing you all the cool stuff that Sideshow offers - like that Premium Indiana Jones on the ad banner. At 22" that thing is AWESOME. I so want to get one. So keep an eye on the ad spaces for other goodies as I put together my advertising program and seek out the cool and nerdy products I love and that I think you will appreciate as well. And behind the scenes, there is new content a brewin' and (hopefully) a cool little announcement in the works, so stay tuned.
Free Comic Book Day Tomorrow
Be sure to head on over to your local comic book retailer tomorrow and pick up a free comic book, or two, or three ... plus you can pick up an exclusive Iron Man HeroClix figure with the S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability. Tony Stark, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. You do know what S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for, right? Semi-Humanoid Inedible Little Ducks. And speaking of Iron Man ... OOOOOOHHBOY! I am REALLY looking forward to this movie. We're already chating it up in the new forums and everyone has high hopes. Let's not hope we've got our expectations set too high though. In any case, this is looking to be a great weekend to geek out! UPDATE: I just got word to hang out 'til after the end of the credits for a fun little surprise.
New Forums Are Live
The new InkTank Forums are now live and active. With thread tagging, spoiler tags, youTube embedding and other goodies, this new and improved forum is more streamlined and ready for some posting lovin'. You can get there from the nav bar and get registered right quick. Please feel free to join us and discuss InkTank, movies, art, canned cheese or anything else that catches your fancy. I also added a web cam link there on the side and am currently working on even more behind the scenes goodness, so stay tuned (or "tooned" if you like). And remember, every vote counts (plus hey, free art!)
A Call To Arms!!
Ok gang, I've successfully gotten my first month under my belt, things are brewing behind the scenes, the traffic is flowing back into the site and all is right in the Inkyverse. That's where this button here comes in. I am going to be doing small things every now and then in May to get the word out. You may see some small Google AdWords ads as you peruse the web, links from online freinds and other goodies. But you can help spread the word as well. In addition to the link banners I posted (which I'll likely be using variants of for paid advertising in a few months) you can help spread the word by voting for InkTank at Top Web Comics and getting me on the top 10 list (where my banner will be displayed). Now, before you click away and don't vote, know this ... There is sweet, sweet candy behind the jolly ...black and white?... button. Ok, well, not really, BUT if you cast a vote you can see two scans of the original pencils for the strips posted on the 11th and the 21st. Yep, see the strip in all it's naked glory, minus ink work. Sounds interesting? Then by all means, click the button, identify the character they show you and see all the penciled Inky goodness. I think I am in the 800s currently, but if even 10% of the folks who visit the site vote, then I should be able to pop up the ranking right quick and get InkTank in front of the webcomic fans. Won't you please be part of that 10%? Thanks! I'd kiss you, but the wife is looking. Did I mention you can vote one every day! Button clicking bliss every 24 hours!
