The InkTank Studio

Entering The Studio

This is the studio as you see it entering from the door. It is the bigger of the two bedrooms we occupy and I intend to maintain it's currently neat decor. It's a bit more spartan than my last workspace and I hope to keep it that way. Perhaps add a necessary bookshelf or two, but I am preferring the unfettered availability of my desk.

My wife's computer is at the end of the workspace on the left.

My Workspace

Here is it, cartoon command central. I work on my PC using dual monitors. I used to have them linked into one extra long monitor, but I prefer them to be thier own seperate entities. I can have iTunes or Hulu or something playing on one screen as I get my work done on the other. I tend to work with something playing in the background to keep my subconscious engaged.

The components (from left to right) are:

  • HP Photosmart 8250 printer
  • Pen holder (okay, so it's a glass from the kitchen, but it's holding pens)
  • Lots of notecards and scraps of papers with ideas
  • CanioScan 70 scanner (standing upright)
  • Falcon Northwest Mach V computer (with custom InkTank paint job)
  • Logitech webcam
  • Large 20 sided die
  • LinkSys router
  • Princeton 17' monitor
  • Samsung 17' monitor
  • Microsoft keyboard
  • Microsoft MX700 optical mouse
  • Speakers
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Headphones
  • Papers and stuff for doing art
  • Basket to hold change, car keys, sunglasses, etc.

Pretty much I can work and draw on the right side of my desk, or in front of the keyboard and then scan the art in and do all the post production work on the computer (a step by step tutorial of my process is in the works). It really is a great workspace and I am very happy working there.

By the way, the flowers are fake and my daughter wandered in with them one day. They've just found a place there I guess.

The "Lounge"

I set up this little area behind the desk to act as a open area to just hang out and chill. The small Ikea loveseat is just big enough for me to lay down and read with the natural light coming in the window. It is also where we sit when playing Mario Kart, but with all the elbowing going on, I think a bigger couch is in order. If it would fit that is. I actually made little "blueprints" of the room and all my equipment to lay things out beforehand so I wouldn't have a mish mash of what goes where and everything all over the place.

Behind The Scenes

Here is a peek "behind the scenes" as it were. Back here is my external drive backup and the cable modem. Also, you can get a better view of the InkTank paint job on the computer case.

Knowing that people would be back here, I tried to keep the cabling as neat as I could, while still making it easy for me to get around and move things as necessary.

Entertainment Central

Despite the lovely setup here, I actually watch very little television. We record some shows and watch them when we can, but mostly it's Wii games and Wii Fit activities going on here.

The TV is a 52" Sharp Aquos that I just love. It's wall mounted with a setting that gives it just a little bit of swivel (to tilt towards the desk for example) and sticks out a little bit to allow me access to the back panel cables. The Wii is located here, as well as the cable box (with DVR) and our DVD player. No Blu-Ray yet ... but someday.

Lately this space is mostly being utilized as "the stage" where my daughter can sing and dance around while I play her favorite songs from her itunes playlist.
